BA (Hons) Visual Communication (Illustration)
INTRODUCTION
The Illustration Discipline is designed to stimulate your personal development in image making. You study the practice of mark making through interpretation of ideas and image generation exploited by hand, print and electronic/digital media, ranging from applied briefs to personal visual comment.
COURSE CONTENT
The content and structure of the course follows a sequential progression to introduce you to the essential skills and understanding needed to undertake the study.
In level 1/year 1, you will work in a variety of disciplines with an emphasis on thinking, looking, doing and making.
In level 2/year 2, you concentrate on Illustration, balanced with internship opportunity. Creative ideas, aesthetics and technology play an important part. At the end of level 2/year 2, you will prepare ideas for level 3/year 3 Negotiated Projects.
For level 3/year 3, we place the emphasis on sharing the responsibility for your own development. You will negotiate an individual programme of study, including a major project linked to a final essay. Throughout the course, you will go through Contextual Studies, integrated in relevant modules.
There are three levels of progression, each containing ten 120 hour modules or equivalent.
ASSESSMENT
The material assessed is the learning outcome of each module. Each module is assessed according to the stipulated course module criteria and the university regulations.
