Department of Communication Design

Diploma in Art and Design (ACDAD)

Duration: 1 year; 2 Semesters
Eligibility: 10 th pass or equivalent. 18 years and above

The primary aim of the Diploma in Art & Design is to educate students to make informed decisions facilitating necessary progression to appropriate higher education in art and design. The course builds on the students' prior experience, linking skills already acquired with ideas and challenges which will extend students' critical independence and enable them to demonstrate a full understanding of the application of art and design, relevant to progression opportunities and career choice.

Some of the topics include: Basic Drawing, Basic Painting, Material and Methods, Space, Form, Composition, Sculpture, Collaborative Project.

Career Options: Corporate Designers, Art Director, Art Director/Graphic Designer (Publishing), Editorial Newspaper / Magazines, Children’s Picture Books/Novels, Graphic Novels/Comic Books

Diploma in Photography (ACDP)

Duration: 6 months
Eligibility: 10 th pass or equivalent. 18 years and above

The objective of Diploma in Photography is to develop technically and aesthetically sound photographers, capable of successfully entering and competing in the open marketplace. Students complete a series of classes conducted by professional faculty members, who guide each student to find his or her ‘style’ both by content and approach. Armed with technical skills plus design and concept knowledge, the student develops a cohesive portfolio that has their personal signature in every image.

Some of the topics include: Photo history and concepts, Digital Photography, Visualization, People Photography, Landscape Photography, Photojournalism

Diploma in Documentary Filmmaking (ACDDF)

Duration: 1 year; 2 Semesters
Eligibility: 10 th pass or equivalent. 18 years and above

The course, Diploma in Documentary Filmmaking, fosters creativity and independence in filmmaking as an art. The approach is dedicated to practical, hands-on training in a collaborative framework.

Department of Fine Arts

Diploma in Painting (ACDP)

Duration: 1 year; 2 Semesters
Eligibility: 10 th pass or equivalent. 18 years and above

The diploma in Painting allows students to concentrate on painting with a focus on technical and conceptual development. The program encourages interpretations and exploration of imagery in either figurative or non-objective art. The course is taught by a faculty of professional artist and focus on combining technical mastery with personal vision.

The resulting independently conceived portfolio of work is critically appraised by faculty and professionals at the Diploma student’s Final Assessment, and subject to an evaluation, is professionally exhibited to the fine art community in the city of Chennai.

Some of the topics include: Still Life Painting, Introduction to Anatomy, Watercolor Painting, Pastel Painting, Composition & Painting, Painting Wild Life and Animals, Abstract Painting, Collaborative Project.

Diploma in SCULPTURE (ACDS)

Duration: 1 year; 2 Semesters
Eligibility: 10 th pass or equivalent. 18 years and above

The diploma in Sculpture is an exploration of the nature of three-dimensional form, as well as an introduction to sculptural materials and technical skills. Students gain hands-on experience creating sculpture. Safety and craftsmanship are emphasized. The course is taught by a faculty of professional artist and focus on combining technical mastery with personal vision.

The resulting independently conceived portfolio of work is critically appraised by faculty and professionals at the Diploma student’s Final Assessment, and subject to an evaluation, is professionally exhibited,

Department of Crafts and Culture

Diploma in Traditional Pottery(ACDTP)

Duration: 1 year; 2 Semesters
Eligibility: 10 th pass or equivalent. 18 years and above

The origins of Indian pottery can be traced back to the Indus Valley Civilization and the art of shaping and baking clay articles as pottery, earthenware and porcelain has continued through the ages. In this course students will be taught the unique art of Indian traditional pottery and they will create pottery which has a visual message in its shape and colour.

Diploma in Performing Arts – Kattaikkuttu

Duration: 10 months
Eligibility: 18 years and above

Kattaikkuttu theatre is a form of traditional music theatre in the South Indian province of Tamil Nadu. The performers sing, act, and dance and the musicians accompany them on a harmonium, hand cymbals and drums.


Research

R&D in dying art forms

This is a research program for those interested in studying/documenting/reviving dying Art Forms of India. The research duration is a maximum of 1.5 years. The research completes with a presentation to a panel of Jury, and is published, after subject to an evaluation.
